Ultimate Bone Harvesting Trephine Kit - Nexxgen Biomedical®
The Ultimate Bone Harvesting Trephine Kit (NX-UBHTK) is a specialized surgical instrument set designed for the efficient collection of autogenous bone particulate during dental implant and regenerative procedures. The kit includes a set of uniquely designed bone harvesting trephines that produce bone particulate rather than a solid core.
The trephines are engineered with a central chip breaker, which facilitates the production of bone chips inside the trephine body. The kit also includes an 8mm traditional trephine for harvesting solid bone cores, as well as a set of stoppers to control drilling depth.
Each trephine is a two-piece assembly, consisting of a trephine body and a latch-type shaft, which can be separated to retrieve the harvested bone. A bone removal tool is included to assist in extracting bone from the trephine body.
All components are housed in an autoclavable stainless steel cassette with a removable lid for easy cleaning and sterilization.
INTENDED USE
The Ultimate Bone Harvesting Trephine Kit is intended for use by qualified dental professionals in oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures requiring the collection of autogenous bone for grafting. The kit allows for controlled bone harvesting while minimizing heat generation and maximizing the retention of viable bone particulate.
Kit Components:
Bone Harvesting Trephines (Chip-Producing)
- 3.4mm
- 3.9mm
- 4.2mm
- 5.2mm
Traditional Bone Harvesting Trephine (Solid Core Producing)
- 8mm
Depth Stoppers (Friction-fit)
- 5mm
- 7mm
- 10mm
- 11.5mm
Bone Removal Tool (Used to remove autogenous bone from the center of the chip trephines)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Instrument Selection: Choose the appropriate bone harvesting trephine based on the required particulate size and harvesting site.
Depth Control: Select the corresponding stopper based on the desired drilling depth. Ensure the stopper is friction-fit onto the trephine hub.
Trephine Assembly: Attach the desired depth stopper to the bone harvesting chip trephine
Handpiece Attachment: Secure the trephine assembly to a 20:1 reduction implant handpiece.
BONE HARVESTING PROCEDURE
Drilling Parameters:
- Operate the trephine at 800-1200 RPM with continuous copious sterile irrigation.
Bone Collection:
- The chip-producing trephines will collect bone particulate inside the trephine body.
- The 8mm traditional trephine will generate a solid bone core.
Depth Management:
- Drill to the pre-determined depth, as controlled by the stopper. Avoid excessive pressure to reduce heat generation.
Important Note: While harvesting bone it is helpful to use a bone harvesting aspirator to collect any excess bone that falls from the body of the trephine.
Bone Retrieval:
- For chip-producing trephines: Detach the latch shaft from the trephine body to access the collected bone.
- Use the bone removal tool to extract the bone particulate from the trephine interior.
- Transfer the harvested bone into a sterile dish for preparation.
Outer Trephine Removed - Bone is contained inside and removed with the bone chip removal tool
Important Note: After drilling - separate the two-piece bone harvesting trephine by rotating the outer bone trephine apart from the inner harvesting bur to expose the harvested bone. It is important to separate the two pieces above a bone dish. After the pieces are separated, use the bone chip removal tool to push all of the remaining trapped bone from the outer trephine body.
POST-PROCEDURE CLEANING & STERILIZATION
Disassembly:
- Separate all components (trephine body, latch shaft, stoppers, and bone removal tool).
Cleaning:
- Rinse thoroughly under running water to remove visible debris.
- Ultrasonically clean using enzymatic detergent for 10 minutes.
- Use a soft-bristle brush to clean inside the trephine body and removal tool.
Sterilization:
- Place all components into the sterilization cassette.
- Steam autoclave at 134°C (273°F) for 4 minutes or 121°C (250°F) for 30 minutes following standard dental sterilization protocols.
- Ensure all parts are completely dry before storage.
CONTRAINDICATIONS - This device is contraindicated for patients with:
- Insufficient bone quantity or quality for harvesting.
- Active infection or uncontrolled systemic disease.
- Severe osteoporosis or metabolic bone disorders.
- Contraindications for autogenous bone grafting as determined by a licensed clinician
STORAGE & HANDLING
- Store in a clean, dry environment at room temperature.
- Inspect components before each use to ensure they are free from damage or wear.
- Replace worn or damaged trephines immediately.
DISPOSAL
- Used or damaged instruments should be disposed of in compliance with local regulations for biomedical waste.
- Single-use components, if applicable, should not be reprocessed or reused.
